Reducing workstress for PhD candidates Fontys
PhD candidates at Fontys experience consistently high levels of work pressure. They combine their doctoral research with regular job responsibilities, leading to mental strain, stress, and risk of burnout. This workload is intensified by time pressure, perfectionism, and a lack of clear structure and support.
Intervention
Handbook: theoretical background and explanation of coping strategies
Workbook: practical formats and exercises
Instruction video: visual introduction to ensure a low-threshold start
Results
Evaluations show that PhD candidates perceive the intervention as useful, well- structured, and motivating. Participants became more aware of their time management, took more breaks, and formulated clearer goals. Conversations about work pressure became easier, and participants gained more control over their work rhythm.
