Based on my research, several key focus points emerged that guide the design process. It is important that users can easily switch between work and relaxation. Short breaks contribute to increased energy and improved concentration. Comfort and ergonomics are essential, especially when the space is used for longer periods. In addition, sufficient acoustic damping is necessary to reduce sensory stimuli, particularly in open office environments.

Users also indicated that they want to decide for themselves how and when they relax. This calls for an intuitive and flexible setup. Visual shielding can help reduce distractions, but the space should not be completely enclosed. Users still want to maintain a sense of awareness and control over their surroundings.

Furthermore, the use of sustainable materials and a long lifespan is important. This aligns well with current demands in the interior design market and with Ahrend’s sustainability vision. Finally, the design should visually match Ahrend’s existing design style, ensuring seamless integration into the office interior.

The construction uses molded plywood by G-Desmet, making it strong & durable. Acoustic insulation and tactile comfort come from molded PET felt by G-Desmet, a post-consumer recycled sound absorbing material. Cushions contain foam from CircleFoam, made of recycled polyurethane and latex from old mattresses, combining ergonomics with sustainaility. Upholstery is 100% linen from CircleFabrics, a durable zero waste fabric.

The base, supplied by Donati, is mainly aluminum and steel, ensuring stability, recyclability, and a modern design. For the table/work surface, I chose a standard component from the current Ahrend stock to simplify logistics. All of these materials and suppliers align with circular economy principles and support scalable, eco-friendly production.
