Improving the usage of the hydrojet bed

The hydrojet bed was designed to reduce stress, relieve physical tension, and enhance employee vitality. Despite these proven benefits, the bed remained largely unused at the WPVH.

Why? Many employees associated rest during work hours, especially using a massage bed, with being unproductive or lazy. This perception was shaped by social conditioning, where workers gradually became used to the idea that productivity means being constantly active at their desk.

Intervention

An intervention was developed combining nudging and role models to reshape social norms around rest. It included:

  • 2 Posters: Showcasing both a senior and junior using the bed.

  • Quotes: Strategically placed at common spots.

  • Instructional Video: Clear explanation of how to use the bed and positive employee reviews.

  • Short Video: Shown at the entrance, displaying workers using the bed to subtly normalize use.

The intervention led to increased use of the hydrojet bed, especially among juniors, and sparked more open conversations about rest and mental wellbeing. Posters and quotes, particularly those near the coffee machine, were widely recognized and positively received.
