Looking back at Outdoor Office Day: these are the most popular outdoor work spots on campus

On June 12, 2025, during Outdoor Office Day at High Tech Campus Eindhoven, we explored a simple but important question together: where would you most like to work outdoors?

We asked visitors to mark their ideal outdoor workspace on a large campus map. Prefer to work alone? Or in a group? Everyone received a set of colored stickers to show their preferences. We also invited them to complete the sentence: “My ideal outdoor workspace should…”. A low-threshold way to discover what people truly value.

What stood out?

Group work belongs in the heart of the campus

Most stickers for group work clustered around The Strip and the waterfront. Vibrant, accessible locations with amenities nearby. Exactly the balance between nature and infrastructure people are looking for.

Peace seekers prefer green and sheltered spots

For solo work, people gravitated toward nature. More secluded areas near water or under trees were popular. Often surprisingly close to their regular workplace.

Power outlets and shade are not just a luxury

Strong Wi-Fi, access to power, screen visibility and protection from sun and wind were often mentioned as must-haves. Working outdoors also calls for smart practical solutions.

Outdoor work is about more than just productivity

Atmosphere matters. People don’t see outdoor workspaces as just a place to get things done. But also to relax, recharge or get inspired. Think cozy spots, surprising details, and even a touch of holiday feeling.
